Getting in
Do I need an account?
No, and there is not one to make. Welle has no server. Open it and start.
How do I get the beta?
Welle is on TestFlight for iPhone. Leave your email and we send you an invitation. The build needs iOS 17 or later.
Is there an Android version?
It runs, and it is not released. The app is built for both, and the Android side has been verified on an emulator rather than on real phones, so it is not ready to hand to anyone yet.
Your entries
Where are my entries kept?
On your device only. Use Settings › Privacy › Export everything to get them all as plain JSON whenever you want. Your history is never behind a subscription.
Can I edit an entry after saving it?
Yes. Transcription is never perfect, and a journal you cannot correct is not a journal.
How do I delete everything?
Settings › Privacy › Delete everything. It is immediate and permanent. There is no copy anywhere else, so please export first if you might want it.
Recording
It says my device cannot record. Why?
Welle requires on-device speech recognition and refuses to fall back to a network recogniser, because that would mean sending your voice to a server. If your device or language cannot do it on-device, you are offered typing instead. Check Settings › Privacy › What runs on this device to see exactly what your phone supports.
Can it follow more than one language?
On iOS 26, yes. It can listen for several languages in one recording and follow a switch mid-sentence. Below iOS 26 a recording is one language, because the older speech interface takes a single language per session and cannot change it.
Is my voice kept?
No. Speech becomes text and the audio is discarded. An entry records how long you spoke and nothing you can play back.
The quiet parts
Why is the You screen empty?
It stays quiet until there is enough history for a pattern to mean anything, which is about two weeks. That is deliberate. A conclusion drawn from four days would not be worth reading.
Where are my streaks?
There are none, and there never will be. Miss a week and the app says “Welcome back”, and nothing else.
Can I turn off the analysis?
Yes. Settings › Privacy › Journal analysis. Off means it is never calculated, not calculated and hidden. Everything else keeps working.
